After announcing the new features at last month’s F8 conference, Instagram has now made them live. These include video chat, new AR filters for stories, and topic channels in Explore. All of these features went live on the June 26th and are now available on Android and iOS.

Video chat will work with anyone you have an active direct chat with, meaning you both need to have sent a message previously. Plus, it works with up to four people. It will not work if you have muted, blocked, or not replied to the person. One of the best features is the ability to minimize the chat and continue browsing in the app while on a video call with your friends. This allows you to browse your feed, send messages, and post stories all while still chatting with your friends.

The new batch of AR filters comes from celebrities and select Instagram partners including Ariana Grande, BuzzFeed, the NBA, and more. This is the first time Instagram has collaborated with third parties for their filters and there is surely more to come in the future. You can access them by following the account and clicking the face icon in the bottom right corner. If you see an effect that you like you can also tap to try it out and add it to your camera.

The revamp of the Explore section now allows you to swipe through interests grid to grid, or you can go deeper into a specific interest by tapping on the channel and scrolling up. Removing a channel is as simple as long pressing and selecting mute. This puts the channel at the end of the tray allowing you to unmute it at any time if you change your mind.
