Budget phones have been getting better and better and that’s very apparent on the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3. The $249 smartphone competes even with some flagships over twice the cost in nearly every area you can think of. If you’ve picked one up, you’ve made a great choice. However even with it’s already great software experience, any hardcore Android fan is going to eventually feel the itch to mess around with their new device. Now the Idol 3 can be tinkered with to a fans delight thanks to a few XDA users who have been able to achieve root on the device.
XDA users frankee207, DallasCZ, and Gynoid were able to achieve root access on the Idol 3 after working around complications with entering fastboot mode. The developers were eventually able to use an exploit in the software to get around those complications. So far the exploit does work on the latest software build on the Idol 3 but has only been tested on the 5.5″ variant of the device. You can head over to the XDA thread linked below to check out this method for yourself and unlock the full potential of your Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3. Keep in mind of course that you do so at your own risk.
