Instagram updated with compatibility for the iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR
With this year’s new iPhones getting into the hands of eager customers, app developers are scrambling to make their apps look good on the larger displays. The 6.5″ and 6.1″ displays found on the iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR are the biggest ever on an iPhone, and they need some adjustments to work properly. Instagram is no exception to this, as version 65 is hitting the App Store today with display optimization improvements.
The new update optimizes the app for the large display by fitting more objects into the screen real estate, whereas prior to the update the elements were just scaled to fit the screen. As you can see in the screenshots below, Instagram looks much better designed in the optimized version (left) than the scaled version (right). The usability of the apps isn’t affected by the scaled version, but it just comes down to making better use of the screen.
The new iPhone XS isn’t affected by this issue, as it still has the same sized screen as the iPhone X. The update is now available for the iPhone XS Max in the App Store.
