Lenovo and Star Wars Jedi Challenges team up to make you a Jedi
No longer is your dream of becoming a Jedi in a galaxy far far away. Thanks to Star Wars Jedi Challenges app, Lenovo Mirage AR headset, Lightsaber Controller, and Tracking Beacon you can begin your training this holiday season. Star Wars Jedi Challenges is a new augmented reality experience combining an app for your Android phone or iPhone and accessories to create something truly unique.
The lightweight Mirage AR headset from Lenovo makes attaching the phone to your head comfortable for long playing sessions. It also includes two fish eye cameras to help with tracking and allowing you to move naturally through the scene. The Tracking Beacon sits on the ground to assist in tracking your location. The Lightsaber Controller is modeled after the one used by Anakin, Luke, and Rey from the Star Wars movies and includes two buttons. It is used as an integral part of the experience, helping you navigate the user interface and control the games.
After installing the Star Wars Jedi Challenges app on your phone and inserting it into the Lenovo Mirage AR headset you can immerse yourself in a new world. What better world to start with than that of Star Wars? You begin your journey with your very own Obi Wan in the form of the Archivist, who instructs you on the ways of the Force™.
Using the Lightsaber Controller you can hone your lightsaber skills for battles against Kylo Ren and Darth Vader. Through the use of light tracking technology and the cameras they even show you an actual lightsaber beam on your screen. Haptic motors in the controller also provide feedback when you hit an opponent. It doesn’t get much cooler than that.
That’s not all though, the app also includes the ability to lead Rebel forces against the evil Empire in strategic ground battles. Using AT-ATs, X-wing fighters, battle droids and even iconic heroes from the series. They didn’t forget about one of the first augmented reality games introduced on the Millenium Falcon either. As you can fire up a game of Holochess as well when you’re looking to challenge your mind.
Augmented reality is an amazing technology that to this point has been under utilized and become quite stale. It is exciting to see Star Wars and Lenovo team up to use it in a new exciting way. Star Wars Jedi Challenges will be available in the US online and in Best Buy stores for $199 beginning in November.
