Shovel Knight: Plague Of Shadows Arrives Next Week

I’ve sung my praises about Shovel Knight in the past. It was my best game of last year, and it’s well-deserved success is wonderful to see. Still, Yacht Club Games haven’t lost touch with their Kickstarter roots and are hard at work on update content as promised. Now, the first of these content updates is rolling out very soon.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows will be coming as a free update to the base game on Thursday, September 17th. It will release on all platforms Shovel Knight is available on. That includes the 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Vita, Xbox One, and PC.

In Plague of Shadows, you will play as Plague Knight, the villainous master of alchemy who is seeking to concoct the Ultimate Potion Serum Supernus. However, he has to face his former allies, The Order of No Quarter, to retrieve the necessary ingredients.

plague_burst_bombthrow_slowdownPlague Knight’s gameplay may take place in similar levels to Shovel Knight, but his moveset remixes the game design. His arsenal includes explosives and potions as well as a double jump, and all of these moves can be used in tandem with each other. A crafting system is also being added that will allow Plague Knight to gather materials and make a variety of power-ups and equipment.

That’s not it as far a remixing goes. We’ll also be seeing remixed and new enemies, bosses, and Feat challenges. Speaking of challenges, a new Challenge Mode will also put your alchemy skills to the test.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows is coming as a free download for owners of Shovel Knight on September 17th. If you haven’t gotten Shovel Knight yet, don’t worry! Plague of Shadows will continue to be available as a free download.

As for me, I can’t wait to try this out and give you guys my impressions. In the meantime, I’ve got some Super Mario Maker to get back to.
