Acer Introduces New Predator Gaming Tablet & Phone
Gaming is something that is important to a mobile platform and some people take it very seriously. With mobile games getting better and better, it makes sense for some users to have a device that can power through even the most advanced. Last year NVIDIA proved how good that concept could be with the SHIELD Tablet. This 8″ tablet was brillant at gaming, and just about everything else too. However to compete with it, Acer has just introduced a new lineup of mobile gaming products, Predator.
The Acer Predator 8 is the company’s gaming tablet. This 8″ tablet has a 1920×1200 resolution and is powered by an Intel Atom x7. The device will run Android 5.1 out of the box as well. Another note, one that Acer is quite proud of, is that this device has front facing speakers. Not one, not two, but four front facing speakers. These speakers give the feeling of surround sound through what Acer calls “Predator Quadio”.
The Predator 8 doesn’t not come with a controller, but instead has advanced haptical feedback inside, much like a standard game controller. The body of this device is mostly plastic, but inlcludes brushed aluminum on the back. The Predator 8 is also just 12.36 ounces in weight and 8.7mm thin, so you’re not giving up anything in terms of hardware on this device.
Pricing starts at $299, but the press release says “up to 64GB storage” which makes it a bit unclear if we’ll get more than one model. Hopefully however this tablet will start out with 64GB in the base model since it is a gaming tablet afterall (yes I’m looking at you NVIDIA with your 16GB SHIELD Tablet). There’s also the ability to expand storage to up to 128GB via microSD.
A stylus will also be available for this device but it won’t come standard.
The Acer Predator 8 will be available in North America starting November 6th exclusively at Newegg. Other retailers will also offer the tablet after the first two weeks. Pricing, as previously mentioned, starts at $299.
Acer didn’t stop with a tablet however as they’ve also announced a Predator 6 gaming phone. With a 6″ display, this device packs many of the same features as it’s tablet counterpart. It has 4GB of RAM, 4 front facing speakers, enhanced haptic feedback, and also an unnamed deca-core MediaTek processor. There’s no pricing or availability right now, but we’re hoping to hear more later this year.
