Motorola Unveils The Moto X Style, Moto X Play, And The New Moto G – From $179 To $399
Motorola has today taken the stage to unveil not one, not two, but three brand new devices. First of all, the Moto X Style. The Moto X Style is Motorola’s flagship for this year. With a 5.7″ inch Quad HD display, this phone is quite a step up in size from previous Motorola flagships. For all of you worrying about that huge size, the Style does have a 76% screen to body ratio which means thin bezels and a smaller overall size. It also has two front facing speakers to get a stereo sound. It also has a 21MP rear camera which Motorola claims is “best in class”.
The Moto X Style runs atop a Snapdragon 808 processor along with 3GB of RAM. Storage tiers include 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. microSD cards are also supported. One of the standout features of the Moto X Style “Pure Edition” is the Universal LTE support which means you’ll be able to use the phone on any US carrier just by swapping your SIM card. The Moto X Style is coming out in September and will priced at just $399.
To bridge the gap between their budget phone, the Moto G, and their flagship, the Moto X, Motorola has introduced the Moto X Play. The Moto X Play is a phone designed for those who need a cheaper device without sacrificing anything important. The Moto X Play packs an absurdly massive 3,630 mAh battery sealed inside which Moto claims will give you about 2 days on a charge. For reference, the battery in the Moto X Play is 42% larger than what is found inside the Samsung Galaxy S6.
This device runs on top of a Snapdragon 615 alongside 2GB of RAM. It also has 16GB and 32GB storage tiers. On the front is a 5.5″ inch 1080p display. The Moto X Play will be available starting in August and will be $300-$400 cheaper than other flagships according to Motorola.
Last but not least, Motorola also unveiled the next generation Moto G. Previous versions of this device have proved insanely popular due to the low price and high end experience. With the 3rd generation the Moto G has gotten better than ever. With a 5″ 720p display and a Snapdragon 410, we don’t see a ton of improvement. However we do see improvements in the hardware, storage, and camera. First of all, the hardware is now metal, just like the rest of Moto’s phones. The device is also finally available in MotoMaker to customize your look. Both variants of the phone are available in MotoMaker. As far as storage goes, the Moto G is still at 8GB for the base model, but now a 16GB model is available. Those two variants have 1 and 2GB of RAM respectively. Another great addition is that all variants of the Moto G now support 4G LTE. One of the biggest improvements is in the camera. The sensor has been upgraded from an 8MP sensor from a 13MP camera with an f/2.0 apeture. This is the same sensor we saw in the Nexus 6, but slightly improved.
The new Moto G is also far more water resistant than previous iterations with an IPX7 rating. That means you can take the Moto G into up to 1M of water for up to 30min. However it is designed simply for splashes and accidental drops. This new device will be available in over 60 countries starting today. The new Moto G is available for $179 for the base model and $219 for the 16GB/2GB variant.
