E3 2015 Press Conference Coverage – Nintendo

E3 2015 Press Conference Coverage – Nintendo

Now we’re in the home stretch. Two more conferences to go. First up is the last of the Big Three, Nintendo. They easily won last E3 with appearances from Super Smash Bros., Hyrule Warriors, Splatoon, and of course the next Legend of Zelda for Wii U.

Going into this year would be pretty different with many games already released and Zelda Wii U not having a presence. Does the remainder of the library have what it takes? While there are strong titles, there’s not nearly as much in this Digital Event as there was last year.

Star Fox ZeroStar Fox Zero

Of course, let the trend continue of starting off with a bang, as a rather weird liveaction puppet routine gives way to the reveal of the next Star Fox game, Star Fox Zero. The Zero moniker was given because this Star Fox is a reimagining of what we’ve seen from the series, and boy does it show. Vehicles vary from the classics like the Arwing and the Landmaster to newer designs like the Walker (previously used in the cancelled Star Fox 2) and the Gyrowing. The Wii U’s dual screen setup will also be utilized, with the TV showing the cinematic view and the Gamepad showing the combat through the cockpit. Star Fox Zero is set to release in Holiday 2015.

SkylandersSkylanders Superchargers

A representative from Vicarious Visions spoke with Reggie to reveal a collaboration between amiibo and Skylanders with their next title, Skylanders: Superchargers. Donkey Kong and Bowser will be getting Skylanders figures, along with vehicles for the game. These figure will have rotatable stands to switch and can also be used as amiiibo. What they’ll do as amiibo is unknown right now. Skylanders: Superchargers comes out on September 20th.

Triforce HeroesZelda Tri Force Heroes

So it turns out we are getting a new Zelda game this year, but not the one I was hoping for. Zelda: Tri Force Heroes for the 3DS is a multiplayer Zelda game, similar to The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords. However, unlike Four Swords, Tri Force Heroes features three players and will support online play. The game also appears to be using the same engine as A Link Between Worlds, so it’ll likely run and look as good. With the three heroes, the game will use the totem system to stack players and reach new area or hit high-up switches. Tri Force Heroes is planned for a Fall 2015 release.

Hyrule Warriors LegendsHyrule Warriors Legends

Speaking of 3DS games, the previously leaked Hyrule Warriors 3DS trailer has now been confirmed, and the game is titled Hyrule Warriors Legends. This version will feature all of the DLC from the first game, but will also be adding Tetra and The King of Red Lions from Wind Waker. In addition, if you buy Hyrule Warriors Legends, you’ll be able to unlock the Wind Waker characters in the Wii U version. Hyrule Warriors Legends will be releasing in Q1 2016.

Metroid-Prime1Metroid Prime: Federation Force

And the 3DS games continue (with a bit of a low for the Digital Event). Metroid Prime: Federation Force is really only Metroid Prime in name. It is a 4-player online-co-op shooter where you fight in locations from the Metroid Prime universe. Its strong point is Blast Ball, which is a soccer-style game with shooting instead of kicking. Really though, you could have changed some looks and the Metroid Prime name and it could easily be its own game.

Fire Emblem FatesFire Emblem Fates

Fire Emblem IF now has the localized name Fire Emblem Fates as shown in a rearranged localized trailer, complete with English voice acting, and with no localized names yet. It’s confirmed that the Japanese release will be two separate games, but I’m not sure what the plan is for the Western release. Fire Emblem Fates is still planned to be coming in 2016

SMT x FEGenei Ibun Roku #FE

I didn’t expect to see so much of this so soon, but we got more info on the world behind Genei Ibun Roku #FE (don’t worry, the name’s not final). The Fire-Emblem-inspired characters are known as Mirages, beings that are drawn to humans with creative potential. Chrom, Caeda, and Tiki are confirmed as Mirages. The Shin-Megami-Tensei-inspired characters are the masters of these Mirages. Genei Ibun Roku #FE is slated for 2016.

Xenoblade Chronicles XXenoblade X

All I really wanted from Xenoblade Chronicles X at E3 2015 was a release date in 2015, and I was happy with this trailer. It also had some of the first localized footage we’ve seen, with the exception of English voice acting. Most important part? December 4th release date.

ACFestivalAnimal Crossing Happy Home Designer/Amiibo Festival

Now amiibo are starting to infiltrate the innocent world of Animal Crossing in two games. Happy Home Designer was shown before as a home decorating game that makes use of amiibo cards for specific character homes. However, Amiibo Festival is a bit more unclear. While HHD doesn’t need the amiibo, Amiibo Festival seems to require them. Currently, there are four Animal Crossing amiibo figures coming, and they are Isabelle, K.K. Slider, Tom Nook, and Mabel. Happy Home Designer is coming on September 25th and Amiibo Festival is coming Holiday 2015.

YoshiYoshi’s Wooly World

Not really anything new here, but we did more gameplay and some info on Yarn Yoshi skins acquired from a variety of amiibo like Zelda and Mario (the latter of which is a tad creepy by the way) We also got the North American release date of October 16th, so that’s cool.

Yokai WatchYokai Watch

The popular Japan-only Pokémon-esque RPG series Yokai Watch is now coming to the West. Not really much else to go on besides the trailer, but you basically capture creatures called Yokai and use your team of six to battle in Dungeon-RPG-style battles. Yokai Watch will be coming to the 3DS in Holiday 2015.

paper JamMario & Luigi: Paper Jam

After Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Paper Mario: Sticker Star were a bit lackluster, what’s the best way to fix them? Merge them! In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, character from the paper Mario series have been brought into the Mario & Luigi world. Again, not much else to go on here. Just don’t be as bad as Sticker Star. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is coming to the 3DS Spring 2016.

Mario TennisMario Tennis Ultra Smash

Ready for another Mario Tennis game? Here it is! Mario Tennis Ultra Smash is coming to the Wii U Holiday 2015. Wish I had more to say.

8-Bit Mario AmiiboSuper Mario Maker

Super Mario Maker clearly had the most screen time in the Digital Event, but most of the new information on the game has been shown in stuff like the Nintendo World Championships. The announcements made here were that Super Mario Maker can use a variety of amiibo as placeable power-ups to transform into an 8-bit version of that character in-level. Speaking of 8-bit, Nintendo also announced that a special 8-Bit Mario amiibo will be coming in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Maker will be released on September 11th.

Compared to what Sony and Microsoft showed, Nintendo’s lineup is overall weaker. However, Nintendo does have an advantage in their showfloor coverage at the Nintendo Treehouse booth. Here, we’ll likely get some extended looks at the games announced during the Digital Event. With that, we’ve got just one more to go.
