Pebble Teasing New Hardware For 2015 Along With Radically Different Software
We’ve been hearing a lot about smartwatches in the past few months and the majority of that focus has been around Android Wear and the Apple Watch. Meanwhile in the background, Pebble has been withstanding the competition even after losing the limelight. The company revealed in an interview with The Verge that they shipped their one millionth Pebble on December 31st, 2014 and they’ve got some bright plans for the future.
The company is teasing that there will be new products from them during 2015, but the real story is the new software platform they’re working on. Eric Migicovsky, Pebble’s CEO, speaks about the platform as something unlike anhything used on smartwatches to date. Most smartwatches have been focused on apps, but Pebble’s new software will be different by not focusing on apps. Migicovsky says that they’ve “found a new framework to use as an interaction model on the watch”. He didn’t reveal exactly what to expect, but it sure sounds exciting.
We all thought 2014 would be the year of the smartwatch, but with everything we’ve got to look forward in 2015, I think we may have been off a year.
