DROID Turbo First Impressions – The Best Smartphone On Verizon, And Maybe Everywhere
The DROID Turbo has been the phone on everyone’s list as one of the top phones of 2014. It has specs that we wish could be in every phone. The only problem, it’s exclusive to Verizon, at least here in the US. Granted, that makes it easily one of, if not the best phone you can get on The Big Red. I’ve been using it the past couple days and now I wanted to talk about my first impressions of this beastly smartphone.
First off, let’s get reminded of the specifications of this phone. We’re looking at a 5.2″ inch Quad-HD AMOLED display. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, and an absolutely massive 3,900 mAh battery. For taking pictures, we have a 21MP camera on the back and a 2MP camera on the front. This is combined with a near stock build of Android 4.4.4 KitKat. This is pretty much a combination of every spec we want to see on an Android device. So how are the results?
While on the way to our full review, this what I can say so far. The DROID Turbo is a really good phone, with one massive problem. The battery life. That’s certainly to say it’s not bad. There would be a seriously problem if that was the case. This phone has the same size battery as a tablet for crying out loud. However it’s far from what it should be. The phone gets through a day, no questions asked. No matter how much I put it through so far, I cannot kill it in a day. However this phone should get through 2 days or more without any issue. Why it’s battery life is as bad as it is, I cannot comprehend.
The 21MP camera is another notable part of this phone. So far, images are pretty good. There is a ton of detail, but once you zoom in, Motorola’s terrible processing kicks in. I’d say that this definitely isn’t the best camera I’ve used recently, for now that award goes to the Galaxy Note 4, but of course my testing is far from complete. Below is a small gallery of some shots I’ve taken so far.
Overall though, this phone is completely insane. It’s got more power than it knows what to do with and software that makes things so much better. After just a single weekend, I can say with all honesty that if you are a Verizon customer looking for a new phone, this is the best one you can get right now.
All that said, stay tuned for our full review of the DROID Turbo coming soon as well as a comparison with it’s brother, the 2014 Moto X. If you have anything specific you’d like to know about the DROID Turbo, leave a comment below and let me know
