Mega Rayquaza Confirmed For Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

We have a little over two months left until the release of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and we’ve already had quite a bit of information about new changes, character designs, and of course Mega Evolutions. Ground and Kyogre have already been confirmed to have their “Mega” Forms dubbed Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre. Now, the final piece of the Legendary Trio gets its own form.

A new trailer that was posted on the official Pokémon YouTube channel reveals Mega Rayquaza. Interestingly, this Mega Evolution doesn’t share the Primal name of the other two. Its method of Mega Evolving is also different than other Pokémon according to the site, which will be made clear in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

As for its battle changes, Mega Rayquaza gets a boost in almost all of its stats and accesses a new ability called Delta Stream. Similar to how Primal Groudon’s Desolate Land causes harsh sunlight and Primal Kyogre’s Primordial Sea cause heavy rain, Delta Stream causes a strong windstorm. These all affect how weather-changing works and how effective certain types are.

Rayquaza also will be getting a new unique move called Dragon Ascent. As of now, it is one of the most powerful Flying-type moves in the Pokémon series.

As a side note, there have been quite a few Megas revealed over the past month or two. These are Mega Camerupt, Mega Sharpedo, Mega Gallade, Mega Slowbro, and Mega Audino.

So what do you think? I know the thought of getting some new Mega Evolutions will be a ton of fun. I really enjoyed the way that Mega Evolution was worked into the plot of X and Y, so I’m really looking forward to how Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire handles it.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on November 21st. Two special transparent 2DS bundles, available in red and blue, have been announced for Europe, but there is still no word on whether or not they will make their way stateside.
