Motorola Makes New Moto X Official – 5.2″ Inch 1080p Display, 13MP Camera – Available This Month
After a long wait, Motorola has made things official by announcing the successor to the Moto X. The new device packs upgraded specifications, new features, and more. The changes included definitely make it a strong contender to other flagships on the market, especially when you look at the price.
The original Moto X was a very well reviewed device, and hopefully this year’s iteration will be no different. First, let’s talk about the specifications. Last year the Moto X was infamously under-specced, but that wasn’t really a bad thing. The phone still out-performed many others on the market.
Moto X Specs
- 5.2″ Inch 1080p AMOLED Display – 423ppi
- Snapdragon 801 Processor – 2.5GHz Quad-Core
- 13MP Rear Camera W/ Ring Flash, 4K Video, 4X Digital Zoom
- 2,300 mAh Battery
- Metal Frame
Software wise we are pretty much looking at what we saw last year, a near-stock build with a few Motorola treats sprinkled on top. Always listening voice control makes a return, but it’s enhanced. This time you can customize command phrases, something most Moto X users were practically begging for last year. Moto Assist and Active Display also return, both with extra features to back them up. Active Display gains the abliity to show multiple notifications at once and Moto Assist gets some automatic actions.
The hardware on the new X is a lot like last year, just with a few changes. One major change is the addition of a metal frame on the device, something most are happy to see. MotoMaker returns on this phone and adds an option for a leather back. Front facing speakers are another great addition that I’m glad to see. The camera also gets an interesting change with a new flash “ring” around the camera.
The new Moto X comes in at $499 off contract through Motorola and will be available later this month. That’s a pretty good deal for what you get. The phone will be available throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Pricing on contract will be only $99 depending on which model you pick up and which carrier you are on.
