First Android One Devices Coming As Soon As This Month?

Google I/O was filled with exciting announcements, and one of those that was incredibly important, but easily overlooked was the Android One program. The program is Google’s way of reaching even more users with Android. They are doing this by assisting smaller manufacturers in creating budget devices that run Stock Android. Google handles all the software, including the updates, which gives the manufacturers more time for the hardware.

Stock Android actually runs incredibly well on these devices (unsurprisingly) giving the user a great end experience. That is a huge plus of these devices. Oh, and there’s one more thing, these devices are cheap, really cheap. At I/O, Sundar Pichai showed off an Android One handset that cost only $100 and was still pleasurable to use. Quite an impressive feat if I do say so myself.

So far, no Android One handsets or details have become available, but it seem we do have a date on when the first device will come to market. Rumors initially suggested an October release for the first Android One handset, but now rumors point to a September release. The only remaining issue is that Google is still heavily pushing to lower the cost of the devices. The first device is expected to be priced at about $150 or higher.
