New Mega Evolutions And Contest Features Coming To Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire

With Pokémon games return through remakes, it feels good to revisit an updated version of their respective regions. Now, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are in a good position by being the follow-up to the series’ first fully 3D entry. Luckily, after the past few info updates on the official site, it looks like Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are shaping up to offer quite a bit as generation remakes.

First off, the Mega Evolution system introduced in Pokémon X and Y is returning in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Mega Blaziken was introduced as a special event Torchic for X and Y, and now the remaining Hoenn starters Sceptile and Swampert will be getting Mega Evolutions.

Alongside these are several other Megas of Hoenn Pokémon. The ones revealed so far are Mega Altaria, Mega Salamence, Mega Sableye, and Mega Metagross. It’s also been confirmed that a Shiny Beldum holding a Mega Stone will be distributed as an Event Pokémon. In addition, Lopunny from Sinnoh and Diancie from Kalos will Mega Evolve, which is pretty strange since Diancie hasn’t even been released outside of Japan yet.. Presumably, these Pokémon or their Mega Stones will be obtainable in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Contests have also been confirmed to be returning, with a new character named Lisia guiding trainers through the Contest process. Contests have some updated features compared to the original, including the ability for Pokémon to Mega Evolve during Contests. Cosplay Pikachu comes into play here as well, and its variety of costumes have been explained. Each costume gives Cosplay Pikachu different moves, like Meteor Mash for Rock Star Pikachu or Flying Press for Pikachu Libre.

As a Pokémon fan, I’m looking forward to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Before Pokémon X and Y, the series was starting to get really repetitive to me. But, the full 3D was a great change of scenery, and now I feel revisiting my favorite region in 3D will be awesome.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire for the Nintendo 3DS will be releasing in most regions on November 21st.
