Fire Emblem: Awakening Characters Are Coming To Super Smash Bros.

It’s that time again. Even more Smash Bros. characters are being added to the already huge roster. After getting a tease that a new character would be revealed today and a picture of a Rayman trophy, it was looking like Rayman was going to be the new reveal.  Now, it’s been confirmed that not one, but two characters are joining from Fire Emblem: Awakening, Lucina and Robin.

Lucina is introduced fighting against Captain Falcon, a regular from the Smash series, to protect Chrom. From the gameplay section of the trailer, it looks like Lucina will share similarities with Marth and Ike in terms of movesets centered around swordplay.

I’m sure that Lucina will make a great addition to the roster, but Robin looks more interesting as far as Fire Emblem characters go. Since Robin was the main created character in Awakening and players could pick the gender, both male and female versions are playable.

Introduced wielding a Tome and Levin Sword, Robin’s main ability makes use of a variety of Tomes in his/her attacks. These Tomes can run out, in which case the Levin Sword is used to recover them. Another small teaser is that it looks like Chrom may play a role in Robin’s Final Smash.

As always, seeing these character reveals gets me even more excited for the games to come. For those disappointed that Rayman didn’t get announced, it’s still a possibility. In the Miiverse, Sakurai mentions that Ubisoft created the 3D rendered model specifically for the trophy. That same model could be used for a character version of Rayman, but for right now, that’s just speculation.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS will be released on October 3rd, while Super Smash Bros. for Wii U still has the Holiday 2014 time period listed.
