Amazon Unveils “Fire TV” Streaming Box – Available Today – $99

Today Amazon has finally announced their long rumored set top streaming box, the Fire TV. This device is a direct competitor to the Roku, Apple TV, and older Google TVs. The box even has a few advantages.

Unlike Amazon, we’ll start off with the price. For $99 you can get this device, which is available today, and it will be shipped to you. So what does the Fire TV do? It’s simple really, it does exactly what you expect. You can stream Netflix, Hulu Plus, WatchESPN and of course Amazon’s own Instant Video service directly to your TV. The device closely resembles an Apple TV both from the actually box itself down to the remote.

Feature wise the Fire TV does have a couple tricks up it’s sleeve. Most notably it is a very capable gaming machine. With an unnamed quad-core chip inside alongside 2GB of RAM and Android, this device can easily power through most games. A few notable titles at launch include Asphalt 8: Airborne, Riptide GP 2, Minecraft and more. On average games will cost less than $2. It is important to note however that you can only play games if you purchase a game controller which costs an additional $39 and is also available today.

Another notable feature is Voice Search. This feature allows users to search for titles at the click of a button with their voice rather than having to use the D-Pad on the remote. Amazon claims that this functinality sets it apart for similar devices and they are right as no other streaming device does that. But is that worth the extra cash?

The Fire TV and all it;s accessories are available for purchase today at the links below. Be sure to go check them out.
