Playstation 4 Sales Break 6 Million Worldwide

John Kroller, VP of Marketing – Home Consoles and Handheld Platforms, posted on the official Playstation blog that sales of the Playstation 4 have surpassed 6 million units worldwide following its successful launch week in Japan as of March 3rd. He has also detailed a few other interesting statistics with regards to the consoles user-base.

In the United States, more than 90% of PS4 are online. There is no percentage to distinguish between users who have PS+, but it would be safe to assume (in the US at least) that it is pretty high up there as well.

Through the consoles’ Twitch and Ustream services, there have been more than 3.6 Million live broadcasts and more than 56 million spectator sessions on the PS4. Since January 1st, PS4 gamers account for 20% of daily broadcasters on Twitch. Over 100 million shares have been captured and shared via the Share button as well.

Kroller also mentions a few upcoming titles to utilize a feature dubbed “Broadcast+ Mode”. These titles will allow players who are streaming to enable the spectator chat to influence positive and negative effects on the players’ gameplay. The titles mentioned here that will have this kind of feature are Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition, Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete Edition, and Daylight.

It would seem that Sony has had a very successful launch with the PS4. With the lineup of titles on the horizon, sales for the console will continue to grow. If Sony can keep the momentum going for the long haul, the PS4 stands to overtake the monolithic 155 million lifetime sales of the Playstation 2.
