LG G2 Mini Released – Packs 4.7″ Inch Screen With Disappointing Specs

After teasing the new device last week, LG has taken the lid off the LG G2 Mini. Designed just like the popular LG G2, this phone has rear buttons and a much smaller and more compact 4.7″ inch screen as compared to the 5.2″ inch found in it’s bigger brother.

Unfortunately however, LG didn’t get the memo that a smaller screen meant lesser specs. Similar to Samsung and other companies, LG put lesser specs inside their “Mini” device. While the Snapdragon 400 and 8MP camera on the Mini could have been easily forgiven, LG decided to put a terrible screen in this phone. With a 960×540 resolution, this screen does not even meet 720p. We had hoped LG would take a route that Sony did with their Sony Xperia Z1 Compact which had the same specifications as the standard Z1, just with a small screen.

The full specs follow:

  • 4.7 inch IPS LCD display with qHD resolution of 540×960
  • 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB RAM
  • Runs on Android 4.4 KitKat
  • 8-megapixel rear, 1.3-megapixel front
  • 8 GB built-in storage, expandable with microSD memory cards
  • 3G/4G Data Connectivity
  • 2,440 mAh battery

While the silver lining here is that the phone does include Android 4.4 KitKat, the screen is still a disappointment. Luckily though LG was aiming at a lower price point with the G2 Mini so hopefully we will see a competitor to phones such as the Galaxy S4 Mini and perhaps even the Moto G price wise. Prices are unknown at this time but the LG G2 Mini will be launching in Russia, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East beginning in March and continuing over the coming months. A U.S. release isn’t confirmed at this time but it wouldn’t be surprising to see a carrier or two picking up this device as a solid pre-paid option.
