How To Fix Android 4.4 KitKat Sharing Menu Bug

If you are running Android 4.4 KitKat on your device you might have encoutered a bug that can be very annoying. At completely random times the sharing menu may not come up at all when you try to share an item and simply default to the last used option. For instance, you may have just shared a picture with your friends on Hangouts, and then you want to share another picture to Dropbox or Google Drive to store it. The bug comes up when you try to share it again and defaults to Hangouts. This can be a very annoying bug especially since it happens completely at random and it’s not too obvious to fix.

The first time it happened to me I wasn’t sure what was going on so I just reflashed my ROM and the problem went away. Then it happened again. This time I did a little more digging into it and discovered a fairly easy way to fix it. The first thing you need to do is access the settings. Then find the apps section. Once you are there click the options button in the top right corner and tap “Reset App Preferences”.

This should fix the sharing bug until it happens again. Hopefully Google will fix this in an upcoming update but at the time of writing this article they have yet to acknowledge it.

Hope this helps everyone!
