Amazon Shows Off Prime Air, An New Way To Deliver Packages In 30 Min
Amazon has had some interesting ideas for delivering packages over the years, but this one takes the cake. The company recently showed off their Prime Air project that delivers packages to your house in only 30 minutes by using a drone. No, I’m not kidding. The idea seems like science fiction but as you can see in the video from Amazon below, it actually seems like it might happen. The only thing really keeping Amazon from sending our packages through the air is the FAA. Amazon states that actually getting Prime Air into commercial use could take a “number of years” while they wait for the “necessary FAA rules and regulations”. They hope that the required rules will be in place by 2015 and that “they will be ready by then”.
While they wait for the rules Amazon says that they will continue to improve the technology until then. They say that one day Prime Air drones “will be as normal as seeing mail trucks on the road today”.
For now the technology is like Google’s self driving cars, it exists, we just can’t quite use it yet. In the meantime we will just have to wait a couple days to get our products and walk out to the mailbox instead of the front yard.
