Apple Event Recap – October 22nd, 2013

Apple today had their event expected to bring about the releases of new products including the refreshed MacBook lineup, OS X Mavericks, the Mac Pro, and the new iPads. In case you missed it, here’s a recap.

They started off with updates about the iPhones. Of course they wanted to brag about how many they sold! Quite impressively though, they sold 9 million iPhones on launch weekend. That includes both the 5S and 5C models. There was nothing said about a ratio.

After that they went into OS X Mavericks. The OS brings new features and better performance and will be available starting today as a free download for anyone running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and above.

Apple also gave the rest of their MacBooks a refresh. After updating the MacBook Air earlier this year and updating the iMac line a couple weeks ago, the update to the MacBook Pro has been expected for some time. The update brings a thinner and lighter form factor to both the 13-inch and 15-inch models. Both models also received Haswell chips allowing for much better battery life. Both laptops also received $200 price cuts and are shipping today.

MacBook Pro Lineup Updated

Another product receiving an update today is the Mac Pro. Announced a few months ago, the new computer is a work horse with jaw-dropping processing capabilities. This is the first update to the Mac Pro line since 2010. The device will be available by the end of the year starting at $2,999.

Mac Pro Details Announced

Another highly anticipated set of announcements was for the new iPad line. Apple introduced the 5th generation of it’s full-size tablet and calls it the iPad Air. It brings an improved set of specs and a new design. It will ship in early November. Apple also released the new iPad Mini 2 also with refreshed specs and bringing a Retina display.
