What Smartphone Manufacturers Need To Learn

Smartphones, we love them and we hate them. I’m going to try to write this article from the viewpoint of any smartphone owner, but I will probably end up making it a little bit Android biased. But, whether you have an iPhone, Android, Windows Phone or Blackberry, there are things we love about our smartphones and things that we hate. We love the apps and various interfaces, but at the same time, there are many things we hate. Phone manufacturer’s, start listening, I’m going to tell you the things we want most from you!

Battery Life

This is pretty much the plagues that hits every smartphone everywhere. The battery. It’s always not enough. Very very few phones can get a user through more than a day, if they even get that far. Take for example my phone, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I just have one thing to say to you Samsung about this phone, 1850 maH??? On that battery the phone could last maybe half a day if you got lucky. Most people buy some sort of extra power for it whether it’s an extended battery, spare battery, or even an external battery. That helps with this kind of phone. The problem is that most new phones don’t have replaceable batteries. We need better batteries!

Operating System

This one is mainly for Nokia. You offer great phones with amazing cameras, but why do you refuse to put Android on any of these devices? It’s always Windows Phone, something I feel isn’t complete yet. Go ahead and offer Windows Phones, I can totally support that, but seriously, make an Android phone, Nokia. (Update: Microsoft bought Nokia, there goes my Lumia Android…)

Skins And Bloatware

To all you Android phone manufacturers, (especially Samsung) please, stop it with the skins!!! I get it, you want to make your device different, but please, stop making these terrible skins and horrible bloatware! There are good skins out there like Sense 5, and not so good skins like TouchWiz. Please, either make your skins good, or just put stock Android on it. Also, along with your skins, why are you so obsessed with adding your own apps? Yes they are useful but that doesn’t mean we need all of them! Here’s a good example. The Galaxy S4 and the Nexus 4. Two great phones. On the 16GB model of each phone, the OS and pre-installed software takes up a certain about of memory and then you can use what’s left for your own apps. On the Nexus4 , there is no bloatware or extra (useless) features. Of the 16GB in the phone, you can use about 11. On the Galaxy S4 you can use a pathetic 8.8GB. We don’t need “S” everything. Just puts apps like that in the Play Store and make them optional downloads. Don’t force them on us.

So yeah, that was a little Android biased… But I think that if any smartphone manufacturer (Apple included) listened to those 3 things, smartphones would be way better for consumers. Anyway, if you agree or disagree with what I’ve said, let me know in the comments!
